It was announced tonight that ProjectKO has received notice that they must discontinue their efforts to revive Rumbleverse with private servers immediately and remove any promotional materials for the project. By tomorrow, they will have to take down all downloads for the archives of the game, the server source code and the videos posted on YouTube used to garner attention for the fan lead revival.
Here is the official comment from Aeyth on their discord server:
It may be a tad harsh, as I'd be willing to bet many of the people at Iron Galaxy would love to see their hard work back up and running for players to enjoy... but the lawyers have got to protect the IP. Lawyers ruin all the fun. It's an understandable response though when losing something so close to you (again), especially having put work into yourself at this point.
UPDATE: In an unfortunate coincidence, it was brought to our attention that the announcement that ProjectKO is shutting down was posted exactly one year to the day after the announcement that Rumbleverse itself was being shut down.
To end on a positive note, we can only hope Iron Galaxy is protecting the IP because they intend to do something with it in the future. I'm sure the people working on ProjectKO would be more than happy to stop work on the project if it meant that the real deal is coming back.
For now, the lucky few who knew of the project must bid farewell to Rumbleverse again... as the last way to play is itself sunsetting before it's time.
Thanks to Aeyth and the rest of the ProjectKO team for trying. They got quite far into it and put it way more effort than anyone can expect of a fan of a shuttered game.
